In 1925 - the year that Dad bought his first camera - Grandad bought their first car, a secondhand T model Ford, and apparently drove it to Adelaide, Dad (aged 14) presumably with him and taking these few surviving photos of the trip. The first one is the only one that he's written on, of their car coming off what was then the only access at the head of the gulf.
(Looks like a spot of puncture trouble, possibly down in the Southern Vales area. Note that the number plate has been "upgraded" for some reason.) |
(This is the old swing bridge over the Onkaparinga at the back of Old Noarlunga, where (coincidentally?) Grandad's own grandfather ran a brewery in the 1850s) |
(Looks like this is in the Adelaide suburbs somewhere) |
